Virginia Mae Mantooth

VIRGINIA MAE FINNEY MANTOOTH, age 88, of Winchester, Tenn., departed this life on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at High Point Health in Winchester following an extended illness.  She was born in Decherd, Tenn., one of ten children to the late Robert Finney and Lora Finney on April 30, 1937.  Ms. Mantooth last attended, when she was able to go, to the Prairie Plains Baptist Church.  She was employed for approximately 32 years as an Inspector at the former Carpet Mill (Shaw Industries) in Cowan.  She enjoyed working in her flowers, cooking and more recently watching game shows on T.V.  She was an avid Atlanta Braves Baseball fan.  When her children were young she was a "second mother" to her son, Dennis' baseball teams and over the years her children's friends and was often cooking for all of them.  She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Boston "Pete" Mantooth, Son, Dennis Mantooth and nine brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, June Knight of Winchester, granddaughters; Mandy Hill and husband, John of Madison, Ala., Melinda (Brandon Mayer) Knight of Huntsville, Ala., Great-grandchildren: Grace and Caroline Hill.

Services will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, April 13, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services with Rev. Joe Butler, officating.  

Visitation with the family will be held from 1:00 P.M. Sunday until service time at 3:00.

Interment will follow services at Watson Memorial Park with family serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Goshen Cumberland Presbyterian Church, c/o Tim Money, 19 Money Lane, Winchester, TN  37398. Grant Funeral Services in Charge of Arrangements
