Franny E. Ayala, age 39, of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, passed away on December 7, 2025, at Parkridge West Hospital. She was born on February 17, 1986, in Sparta, Tennessee, to McLouis Peterman and the late Deborah (Dillon) Peterman. Fanny was of the Baptist faith and carried a strong belief in God throughout her life. She spent many years caring for others as a devoted caretaker with At Home Healthcare of East Tennessee. Above all, she was a loving mother who treasured the time she spent with her children. She enjoyed relaxing at the beach and watching television, especially her favorites Twilight and Supernatural. Franny will be remembered as caring, gentle, and devoted to her family. In addition to her mother, she is preceded in death by her grandparents, Dillard and Ruby Dillon; niece, Angel Maddux; sister-in-law, Leticia Ayala; and brothers-in-laws, Sabino Ayala and Ramiro Ayala. She is survived by her loving husband of ten years, Jose Ayala, and his parents Efren Ayala and Maria de Luz Arreguin; children, Omar Slatton, Caden Slatton, Gracien Ayala, and Miracle Ayala; siblings, David Maddox, Ola Maddux, and Daniel Maddux; nephew, Payton Maddux; along with many aunts, uncles, and extended family members who will forever cherish her memory. Carolyn M. Hood, age 94 of Decherd and last eight years of Fayetteville, passed away on December 11, 2025, at her residence. She was born on September 5, 1931, to the late Harold and Hattie Mae Hix. Carolyn grew up in Huntland, graduated from Huntland High School, and later attended Cincinnati Music Conservatory and Motlow. She soon met Dr. Dewey Woodrow and together they were married for 67 years. A lifelong faithful member of Decherd Church of Christ, she dedicated her life to her beloved husband, children, and to serving those around her. Carolyn quietly mentored many teens in music and life skills and was in foster care and worked with many handicapped adults as well. She passionately worked to raise awareness for cystic fibrosis. At home, Carolyn was an avid gardener and seamstress. She loved to cook and decorate her home. There was always a favorite meal and homemade bread prepared and ready when family would visit. Carolyn was known for her lovely singing voice and enjoyed performing in many local events in her younger years. Her love for music continued, attending many gospel singings and playing the piano all the way into her 90’s. Encouraged by her dear friend, Myra Johnson, Carolyn also studied art at Motlow, and her family continues to treasure her many paintings. In addition to her parents, Carolyn is preceded in death by her brothers, Maurice Hix, Doyle Lynn Hix; daughter-in-law, Carol Hood; and grandson Ross Hood. She is survived by her children, Michael (Vicky) Hood, David (Beverly) Hood, Elyssa (Paul) Clayton, Chris Hood; grandchildren, Matthew Hood, Joselyn Hood, Laura Poland, Gene Poland, Valerie Leonard, Rob Leonard, Gabrielle Richey, Justin Richey, Joey Hood, April Hood, Grace Clayton, James Clayton, and McKayla Clayton; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Sue Hix. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 14, 2025, from 1pm-2pm at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 2pm, with Paul Clayton officiating. Internment will be held following the service at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
