Paul Edward Thompson, age 83 of Hillsboro, passed away on July 17, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Cowan on April 6, 1942, to the late Woodrow Thompson and Elsie Rackley. Paul first began working as the manager of the Winchester Bowling Alley. He went on to work at the Genesco Shoe Factory in Cowan, followed by the Filling Station in Cowan as a manager, and finally, at the Assembly Grounds as a Carpenter. Paul loved getting together with his friends, camping with his family, and playing the guitar. He was a quiet, content man in his elderly years, but always still loved the time he spent sitting outside with his friends at Kingwood Arms. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Elsie Thompson. He is survived by his three children, Russell (Tina) Thompson, Maverick Lars Thompson, Paula Thompson of Georgia; sister, Jean (Robert) Allan; grandchildren, Madaisa Thompson of Hillsboro, Trent Thompson of Hillsboro; niece, Barbara McGinty of Nashville; and nephew, John Allan of Estill Springs. A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 11am-1pm at St. Agnes’ Episcopal Church in Cowan. Funeral Service will follow at 1pm on July 26, 2025, at St. Agnes’ Episcopal Church in Cowan. Interment will take place after the service at Cowan Montgomery Cemetery.
