Loyd Ernest Jernigan, age 63 of Decherd, passed away on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Denton, Texas on July 26, 1962, to the late Thomas Ernest and Margaret Elizabeth (Doughty) Jernigan. He began college at Oklahoma State College before earning a B.S. Degree from MTSU with a major in Animal Science and a minor in Agriculture. Loyd’s professional career started working as a truck driver, then as an Ag Teacher in Moore County. Before retirement, he was a case manager for the state of Tennessee. In his younger years, he enjoyed hiking, scuba diving, and hunting and fishing. More recently, he enjoyed handwork, such as working with leather especially making belts and wallets, metal making knives, and carpentry work. He was of the Catholic Faith and was baptized at Good Shepherd Church. His strong will, gift of gab, and wisdom on many subjects will be missed by his family and friends…he was a true gentleman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Rebecca Jernigan. Loyd is survived by his loving wife of thirty-six years, Doris Conner Jernigan; children, Geneva Stella, and Jennifer (Ben) Patrick; and grandchildren, Thomas Stella, Raul Lopez, Katelynn Lopez (Trevon Ploss), and Shane Patrick aka Sky Chief. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Mt. Garner Cemetery.
