June 2, 1942 - July 17, 2025

James Edward Gipson, age 83, of Decherd, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2025. Born on June 2, 1942, James lived a full and vibrant life, spending 40 years in Ohio before settling on Wilder Chapel Road in Decherd, where he built a home filled with family, love, and the quiet country life he cherished.

James was known for his adventurous spirit, sharp wit, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He found joy in fishing, road trips, football banter (especially when teasing family), and the occasional good-hearted gamble. But above all, he cherished time with his wife, daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren—his pride, his joy, and his greatest legacy.

James will be remembered not just for his loyalty and love, but for the way he showed it—calling his loved ones daily (sometimes five times a day), cracking jokes that blended humor with heart, and making sure no one went without food, fuel, or encouragement. His colorful milkshake comments, legendary fart jokes, and gentle wisdom will live on in stories passed down with laughter and tears.

His legacy is woven into traditions, phone calls, kindness, and the deep love that continues to surround the family he held so dear.

James is preceded in death by his daughter, Leeann Marie Gipson; parents, Aline “Nana” Gipson, Hazel “Big Papa” Gipson; brother, Dewey Gipson; nephew, Greg Gipson; and aunt, Sarah Gipson.

James is survived by his wife, Virginia Gipson; daughter, Deborah “DebberDebber” Gipson; sister-in-law, Kathleen Gipson; favorite niece, Michele (Jason) Gipson; stepchildren, Lenny (Heather) Richter, Dean (Tonya) Richter, Leigh Ann (Bill) Richter; grandchildren, Bobby Gipson, Candice (TJ) Stinson, Amy (Josh) Smith, Michael Edward Gipson, Ashlee (Cassey) Rainey, JJ Rainey, Marshall Edward Gipson, Logan Richter, Dean Richter Jr; great-grandchildren, Summer McClure, James Anthony Curtis, Brantley Suede Stinson, Hadley Marie Stinson, Briell Gipson, Jeremiah Richter, Aliyah Smith, and Alicia Marie Cortez.
