It was a fun filled day of laughter and connection as Franklin County families flocked to the Winchester Swimplex last week for the much-anticipated Free Swim Day, hosted by the Franklin County Prevention Coalition. The event drew more than 430 community members who enjoyed upbeat music, lively games, delicious free pizza and hot dogs, and a variety of helpful resources. Designed as a space for families to relax and bond, the event welcomed all ages, with younger children under 13 accompanied by a parent. From splashing in the pool to sharing a meal with neighbors, the day served as a joyful reminder of the strength and unity within the Franklin County community and the tireless efforts put forth by the Coalition to reinforce family connection and conversations.

The community pool party was scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. last Wednesday and, although there was a brief stint of rain during the day, the weather cooperated well enough for the event to last through the scheduled duration.
The Franklin County Prevention Coalition had also scheduled a pool party at the Winchester Swimplex for the local middle and high school students that was scheduled for last Tuesday. Due to inclement weather, the event was cancelled and is rescheduled for July 24th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Throughout the summer, the Franklin County Prevention Coalition is hosting a series of family-friendly events aimed at fostering meaningful connections in a safe, positive environment—an important step in preventing substance misuse among young people. Recent highlights include a free bowling night, a community movie screening, a lively pool party, a “Fun in the Sun” event, and the heartwarming “Donuts with Dudes” gathering at the Franklin County Library. Each event is thoughtfully designed to bring families together, create lasting memories, provide resources, and reinforce the importance of strong, supportive relationships within the homes and the community.

Some of the upcoming community events include the rescheduled pool party for the middle and high school students and a community movie night in Estill Springs City Park that is scheduled for June 28th.
The Franklin County Prevention Coalition remains committed to its mission of promoting healthy, substance-free lifestyles by creating accessible opportunities for family engagement. As the summer continues, coalition leaders hope the momentum from these events will inspire long-term community connection and support.
