Four hospitalized after skydiving plane incident in Tennessee

Federal investigators probe Sunday afternoon emergency at Tullahoma Municipal Airport

TULLAHOMA, Tenn. – Four people were rushed to hospitals Sunday after a skydiving flight encountered trouble at Tullahoma Municipal Airport, with three requiring helicopter transport for their injuries.

The DeHavilland DH-6 Twin Otter departed around 12:30 p.m. with 20 people on board, including crew members. The twin-engine aircraft is a popular choice for skydiving operations.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, treating several people for minor injuries at the airport. One person suffered more serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital, while three others needed helicopter transport to area medical facilities.

No one on the ground was hurt, and airport infrastructure escaped damage in the incident.

Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board investigators have launched a probe into what went wrong.

"The scene remains under investigation and we'll have more for you soon," said Lyle Russell, the city's Community Engagement Officer.

City officials held a press conference at the airport terminal, which was livestreamed on Tullahoma's Facebook page. 931GO will be providing updates on new developments of the investigation.

"We appreciate everyone's patience as we work through the scene," Russell added.
