At first glance, it might seem like just another bar karaoke night—but the energy, the crowd, and the sheer anticipation prove it's something far greater. Now entering its eighth year, the Lake Idol Contest at Drafts and Watercrafts has become a staple of Franklin County's summer, drawing eager contestants and enthusiastic spectators alike. And this Thursday at 7:00, Week One kicks off as Franklin County officially launches its much-anticipated lake season in style.
Sign-ups for the contest will begin at 6:00 p.m., with the competition starting at 7:00. Due to the popularity of the event, spectators are encouraged to show up early if they are wanting to secure a table.
The Lake Idol event lasts 12 weeks, having one winner at the end of each week. Each weekly winner will be awarded a Jack Daniels sponsored prize with a value of around $250.00. At the end of the 12 weeks, all winners will compete in a season finale for the chance to win $1,000.00.
Participants are welcome to do karaoke, or they can bring their own instruments. They are asked to perform two songs, and they will be judged on vocals, stage performance, and crowd response. Participants must be at least 16 years old to compete and are welcome to enter as many times as it takes to win.
A full menu will be offered during the weekly event, and the Drafts and Watercrafts establishment is excited to bring the musical occasion back to the dock.
“People don’t realize this is not karaoke. These people are good.”, stated Scotty Steele. “We have them come from Chattanooga, Nashville, everywhere. And the crowd really gets into it. They bring signs and everything. Where else can you go and sing in front of 300 people? This place gets packed.”
With talent that shines, a crowd that roars, and an atmosphere that electrifies, the Lake Idol Contest has grown into more than just a competition—it’s a summer tradition that brings the community together in celebration of music and passion. Whether you’re stepping up to the mic or cheering from the sidelines, there’s something magical about the energy of Drafts and Watercrafts on these unforgettable nights. As Franklin County kicks off another incredible lake season, one thing is certain—Thursday nights will be packed with music, camaraderie, and the thrill of discovering the next big voice.
