Shirley Ruth Mitchell Terrell, of Sewanee, Tennessee, passed away at the age of 79 of May 24, 2025. She was born on August 6, 1945, to RV Mitchell and Maideen Cooper. She is survived by her husband Jamie Terrell and her children, Dina (Donny) Green, Regina Schueneman, Pamela Cantrell, Sandra Haarsma, Justin (April) Terrell, and Kayla (Kevin) Hadley; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; brothers, C.G. Mitchell, and Rob Mitchell; and sister, Linda Leggitt; numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons-in-law, Gregory Cantrell and Danny Sarandos; and grandson, Adam Cantrell. Shirley was born in Mississippi and at a young age moved to Wisconsin where her love of music was established. She was very talented musically, playing the piano, organ, and accordion. She never played music reading sheet music, only by ear…if she could hear it, she could play it. Shirley played in a country music band, but most of her life she played in gospel groups and at churches she attended throughout the years. Her working career included sales in clothing and jewelry in the retail industry. She also worked in the hospitality field, as well as the maternity ward and elderly care. Shirley’s later years brought her to Sewanee, Tennessee, where she became “Buttercup” to her beloved husband, Jamie. She attended Tullahoma Church of God of Prophecy. Shirley enjoyed spending time with family and special friends. Throughout all her trials and pain, her faith remained constant and strong. It has always been her prayers that all her family and friends find the faith that she had and one day will all be together again. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.
