June 27, 1933 - June 20, 2025
Lillie Elizabeth Clark began her heavenly journey on June 20, 2025, at Highpoint Health in Winchester, Tennessee.
She was born on June 27, 1933, in Estill Springs, Tennessee, where she lived for most of her 91 years before moving to Franklin Manor in Winchester in 2021.
She was preceded in death by her parents James William (J.W.) and Mary Elizabeth (Bessie) Ingleburger, her husband Houston Kenneth Clark, and her twin sister Willie Ingleburger Duckworth.
Lillie married the love of her life in 1955. They were married for 67 years and could often be seen walking together hand in hand. She and Kenneth were honored as “Mr. and Mrs. Estill Springs” in 2015.
“Mrs. Lillie” touched the lives of countless children and adults during her 30 plus years of service at Estill Springs Elementary and Rock Creek Elementary. She held various duties from reading teacher, office worker, teacher’s aide, and substitute teacher. She also worked with adult education (GED) classes helping people earn their diplomas. She truly loved helping people learn to read, and she often encouraged both children and adults to strive for their highest potential.
Lillie was active in civic and charity work in Estill Springs and Franklin County as a whole. She could usually be found at an Estill Springs Board meetings, interjecting her recommendations. She served several terms on the Estill Springs Cemetery Committee and the Franklin County Beer Board. Lillie also volunteered at the Franklin County Good Samaritan’s Foundation and Multi-County Cancer Support Network. Lillie was a long-time member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Estill Springs where she served as secretary/treasurer and in various teaching roles, as well as organizer of VBS, potlucks, and benevolence.
One of Lillie’s favorite hobbies was baking and many in the community were recipients of her cakes, sourdough bread, candy treats, and brownies. She also loved dressing up and decorating for holidays. Many will remember her roles as both Santa Claus and the witch who welcomed visitors to the haunted house at Rock Creek School Fall Festivals. After moving to Franklin Manor, Lillie took on a new role as “encourager-in-chief” -- to the residents and their visiting family members as well as to the staff. She loved sitting by the door and letting her light shine.
Surviving Lillie are her children Cindy and Steven Callaway and James and Kimberly Clark; grandchildren, Andrew (Alison) Callaway, Caitlyn Callaway (Greg Morris), Meagan Clark, Matthew Clark, and Andrew Clark; great-grandchildren, Clayton, Corbin, and Tyler Callaway and Rowena Morris; and other beloved family members and friends.
Visitation will be from 4-6pm on Friday, June 27, 2025, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 6:00pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home Services with Bro. Dwight Duckworth officiating. A private inurnment will be held at Franklin Memorial Gardens.
If you would like to remember Lillie in a special way, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Franklin County Good Samaritans or the Multi-County Cancer Support Network (P.O Box 633, Decherd, TN 37324).
