Lila Jean Mayes

Lila Jean Mayes, age 94 of Winchester, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025, at Highpoint Health Medical Center. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Winchester Springs on November 1, 1930, to the late John Aubrey and Myrtle Vivian (Weaver) Statum. A dedicated homemaker, she spent much of her time gardening, canning, sewing and cooking. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and working on puzzles in her spare time. But most of all, she cherished the time spent with her beloved family. A Christian lady, Jean was a devoted member of Riva Lake Baptist Church, where she was baptized. She will be remembered as the best mother, soft yet firm, and for her loving and caring nature. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jack Statum, Delores Crabtree, Geneva Wooten, and Jimmie Statum; and grandchildren, Michael Mayes and Mitchell Mayes. Jean is survived by her loving children, Eddie (Joyce) Mayes, Margie (Bud) Relford, Dean (Karen) Mayes, Amy (Rick) Lowhorn, and Bob (Judy) Mayes; fourteen grandchildren; forty-eight great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; and special friend, Dana Long. Visitation will be from 1-3pm on Friday, May 30, 2025, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 3:00pm in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home.
