MOORE COUNTY, Tenn. — Huntland ace Kinah Mason put on a clinic Monday night, slicing through Moore County’s lineup like a hot knife through butter. The right-hander was untouchable, fanning 11 and giving up just one hit in a complete-game shutout as the Lady Hornets rolled to a dominant 9-0 win over the Raiderettes in game two of the District 9A Tournament.
Mason was in total control from the first pitch to the last—seven innings, zero runs, one walk, one lonely hit. The Raiderettes simply had no answers.
Offensively, Huntland brought the bats to match Mason’s brilliance. Senior spark plug Catara Johnson was relentless at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a trio of well-placed singles that sparked multiple rallies. Her third-inning knock ignited a chain reaction that led to three Hornet runs, aided by a fielder’s choice and a costly Moore County miscue.
Then came the fourth—and the floodgates opened. Huntland piled on five runs behind a string of hits and smart baserunning. Millie Walker slapped a two-RBI single, Johnson delivered again, Lily Jackson drew a bases-loaded walk, and a wild pitch pushed across another run. Just like that, it was 8-0, and the game was all but over.
Kaley Barnett matched Johnson with three hits of her own, while Walker and Molly Tipps each chipped in with multi-hit performances, part of an 11-hit barrage.
On the other side, Moore County struggled to find rhythm. Starter Kinsley Miller was tagged for five runs (four earned) over three and a third innings, while reliever Kallie Ross gave up four more. Bailey Dunn recorded the Raiderettes’ only hit.
With the win, the Lady Hornets Advance to game three of the District 9A Tournament to take on Eagleville on Tuesday with the first pitch set for 5pm at Moore County High School.
