Kim P. Smith, age 65 of Winchester, TN, passed away at her home on Thursday, April 17, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a most courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. Kim was born on February 17, 1960, in Winchester, to James Edward VanBlaricum and Virginia Faye Lightfoot Powell. She attended Motlow State Community College. Early in her business career, she worked for Dr. Richard Fishbein in Coffee County, Doyle E. Richardson, Attorney in Tullahoma and as a paralegal with Swafford, Peters and O’Neal. In 2002, she and her sister, Whitney, owned and operated Amicus Abstractors. A couple of years later, Kim and her husband, Joe, with Brenda Wells, opened Sovereign Title and Escrow Company servicing the title needs of citizens from all over Tennessee. Kim and Joe would later take over the company. She continued in this capacity until her passing.
One of Kim’s passions was purchasing and remodeling properties throughout the surrounding counties. She loved the creative process, and had extraordinary vision including both interior and exterior design skills, to make these properties reach their full potential. Her altruistic attitude and business savvy has enabled many people to make their dream home come to fruition. She spent many years working closely with her husband revitalizing and remodeling a historic house with adjoining properties creating a stunning sanctuary and legacy home that is enjoyed by her family and friends alike.
Kim was an avid reader, and had a love of riding horses. She found humor in most situations and her optimism knew no bounds. She loved to travel and spoke Spanish fluently. Her adventures took her to Russia, Spain, Costa Rica, and Brazil. She was indeed an admirable matriarch in every way. Her family escapades took her to various beaches with her children and grandchildren and a favorite being Perdido Key. She enjoyed attending comedy shows, and listening to all genres of music with the exception of country. But most of all, Kim enjoyed time with her husband, her boys, and her grandchildren. All of their activities, including soccer games, and dance recitals were priorities. Kim lived her faith and attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Decherd. Her selflessness was exemplified day-in and day-out, be it with her loved ones, dear friends and/or people from all walks of life.
Kim is preceded in death by her adoring grandmother, Lela Mae Lightfoot, and loving uncle, Frank Raulston. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of over forty-six years, Joe Smith; sons, Adam Smith, Jonas Smith, and Miles Smith; grandchildren, Asa Smith, Aubrey Anna Smith, Jude Smith, Rew Smith, Asher Miles Smith; siblings, Carew “Ziggy” Ritter, Whitney Powell Lasley, and George Matthews Powell V. Her beloved aunt, Glenda Raulston; and her treasured cousins whom she considered siblings, Celeste Raulston Deutsch and Mike Keele.
