SHELBYVILLE — A Shelbyville man is turning his fight against cancer into a mission of faith, endurance, and hope.
Joshua Branson, 34, is a Christian, husband, father, and lifelong Tennessee Volunteers fan. In 2022, he was diagnosed with stage four ALK-positive lung cancer — a rare form of the disease that struck despite the fact he never smoked.
Now, Branson is working to raise $50,000 to enter a clinical trial that could extend his life. To shine a light on his journey and inspire others, he and five teammates will take on a bold challenge: running relay-style from Shelbyville to Knoxville — more than 200 miles — finishing inside Neyland Stadium. The run is set for Friday, November 21, 2025.

Branson calls the effort “Joshua’s Journey,” and says the miles represent both his own battle and the struggles of countless others fighting cancer. “I want my kids to see that even in the hardest moments, we can keep moving forward in faith,” he said.
Support for the effort is already growing throughout Middle Tennessee, with friends, family, and community members rallying behind his cause.
Donations will go toward medical expenses, participation in the clinical trial, and support for Branson’s ongoing care.
Those wishing to contribute or follow his journey can visit JoshuasJourney.org or donate directly at every.org/JoshuasJourney2025.

The November run will not only raise critical funds but also serve as a reminder of the power of community, perseverance, and faith. As Branson and his team cross the finish line at Neyland, he hopes to inspire others never to give up — no matter how difficult the fight.
