Jerry B. Sampo

May 26, 1947 - April 24, 2025

Jerry B. Sampo, age 77, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Highpoint Health- Winchester. He was born on May 26, 1947, in LaSalle, IL, to Peter and Margaret Sampo.


He was the proud owner of Sampo Roofing Company, a business that was passed down through generations, beginning with his grandfather. From a young age, Jerry developed a strong work ethic, learning the trade from his family and cultivating a passion for quality craftsmanship.


He spent his formative years exploring the great outdoors, instilling in him a profound appreciation for nature that he carried throughout his life. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts, where he developed his skills in camping, fishing, and target shooting. Jerry found solace and joy in the tranquility of the wilderness, often spending weekends fishing by the lakeside or camping under the stars, surrounded by friends and family.


Jerry proudly served his country with honor and dignity as a US Marine, the American Legion, and the Catholic War Veterans. His commitment to service extended beyond his military duties; he was a pillar of his community, known for his honesty, kindness, and genuine care for others. Friends often remarked on his willingness to lend a helping hand, whether it was a simple act of kindness or working on community service projects.


Jerry's sense of adventure was infectious. Many cherished memories were made around campfires, where laughter and stories flowed freely. He faced life with a spirit of optimism and gratitude, reminding everyone around him of the beauty that exists in the world. He believed in the importance of family, friendship, and the simple joys that life has to offer.


He is preceded in death by his father, Peter Sampo; and sister, Judy Baker. He is survived by the love of his life, Shawn Sampo; mother, Margaret Sampo; children, Allen (Kandi) Sampo, Jeff Sampo, Dewey (Sharon) Franklin, Thomas (Sonya) Franklin, Bonnie (Sonny) LaFollette, Carri (Mark) Colmane, Dawn (John) Bailey; sisters, Sandra (Chris) Noll and Tina (E.J) Gray; brothers, Greg (Lisa) Sampo and Peter (Linda) Sampo; 17 grandchildren,10 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild.
