Former Sewanee Basketball Player Dies in Chopper/Plane Crash in D.C.

Among the victims identified in the Washington D.C. mid-air collision of an American Airlines passenger jet and a US Army Black Hawk is helicopter pilot Rebecca Lobach, from North Carolina.

The Army officially identified the pilot as Capt. Rebecca Lobach, 28, is one of the three-person crew inside the UH-60 Black Hawk.

Lobach was co-piloting the Black Hawk at the time of the collision on Wednesday evening.

Lobach, 28, attended the University of the South, also known as Sewanee. She majored in Biology and minored in Political Science. She also played basketball for the Lady Tigers. 

Last month, she escorted Ralph Lauren when President Biden awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
