Decherd, TN — Facing an $800,000 budget gap, Decherd officials approved the first reading of a 2026 fiscal plan that includes a proposed 40% property tax increase, raising the annual bill on a $100,000 home by only $100. Mayor Mary Nell Hess said the final budget will likely mix tax increases with spending cuts, as the board scrambles to soften the blow before the June 30 deadline. A budget workshop is set for Monday at 1:30 p.m. at City Hall, where final approval steps could be scheduled.
