BREAKING NEWS: Flight Reductions at Nashville International Airport Amid Air Traffic Controller Shortage

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered an immediate reduction in flights at Nashville International Airport (BNA) due to a shortage of air traffic controllers, the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority announced Tuesday afternoon.

The notice was received at 1:25 p.m. on October 7, 2025, with the reduction taking effect just over an hour later, at 2:30 p.m. Central Time. The Airport Authority said the limitation on arriving and departing flights will remain in place until further notice.

All airlines operating out of BNA have been notified, and officials are urging passengers to verify their flight status directly with their airlines before heading to the airport. Delays and cancellations are expected to ripple through connecting flights nationwide, potentially affecting travelers across Tennessee and surrounding states.

The FAA has not provided a timeline for when full operations will resume. The shortage of certified controllers has been a growing concern at major airports across the country, with staffing levels reportedly below federal safety targets in several key regions.

Officials emphasized that the FAA maintains sole responsibility for managing the National Airspace System and any decisions regarding flight capacity.
