Brian Kelly Dayett, age 68 of Winchester, passed away on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born in New London, Connecticut, on January 22, 1957, to the late Lawrence “Kelly” and Dorothy Dayett. Brian started his baseball career playing Little League in Connecticut with his father coaching the team. His love of baseball had begun… In 1975, he graduated from Valley Regional High School where he played baseball, soccer and basketball. He then attended St. Leo’s College in Florida, where he excelled in baseball. In 1978, he was drafted by the New York Yankees and made his debut in 1982. After two seasons, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs. After a successful career in Chicago, Brian’s contract was purchased by the Nippon Ham Fighters, and he played his last three years of baseball in Japan. In 1997, he began a long career as a manager in the independent league, successfully navigating his career focusing on player development. In 2014, his hard work paid off, landing him the job as Position Coach for the Rangers MLB Club. A true man of God, throughout his career, Brian continued to remind his players that they could practice all day long, but they needed to always give an hour to the Lord. He currently was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church. In his time away from work, Brian was an avid outdoorsman, particularly enjoying fishing and hunting. He enjoyed working with his hands, whether it was making lamps or keychains, as well at traveling to Iowa to the family farm or abroad to Africa. But most of all, he cherished the time spent with his beloved Christine, and sons, Chase and Garrett. His best times were when the family gathered all around for a wonderful meal he had prepared. His wonderful sense of humor, loving nature, and dynamic personality, one that never met a stranger, will be missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Richard Doran; and great-niece, Amelia Fandrich. Brian is survived by his loving wife, Christine Doran Dayett; sons, Chase Dayett and Garrett Dayett; siblings, Karen Piazza, and Darlene (David) Pollock; mother-in-law, Janet Doran; brother-in-law, Mark (Cne’) Doran; sister-in-law Sheri (Mitchell) McCoig; nieces and nephews, Dave Pollock, Kris Pollock (Bob Blair), Nicole (Sam) Cooper, Vanessa (Jonathan) Fandrich, Whitney Etheridge, MacKay Doran, and Turner Doran; great-nieces and great-nephews, Holden Fandrich, Justin Mosley, Burt Blair, Charlotte Cooper, and Mabel Cooper; bonus nieces, Marsha (Richard) Charles, Krystal Jones, Stephanie (Patrick) Hunt, and Juli (Tyler) King. A memorial gathering will be held from 3-5pm on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Watson Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 5:00 pm in the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Parkinson Foundation, 5757 Waterford District Drive, Suite 310, Miami, Florida 33126.
