Horatio Alger Scholarship Applications Open December 1

High school students across Franklin County will soon have the opportunity to apply for one of the nation’s most prestigious need-based scholarships, as the Horatio Alger Association prepares to open its 2026 application window on December 1, 2025. The announcement was shared this week along with updated eligibility details for both junior- and senior-level applicants.

The Horatio Alger Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional integrity, perseverance through adversity, and a determined commitment to pursuing higher education. The program specifically supports students with significant financial need, defined as a household income of $100,000 or less. For decades, the scholarship has helped students across the country overcome economic challenges and pursue their academic goals.

Applications for current high school juniors will remain open until March 1, 2026, while current seniors must apply by February 15, 2026. Both groups must be enrolled full-time in a U.S. high school, hold a minimum 2.0 GPA, participate in community or co-curricular activities, and be U.S. citizens. Seniors must also be committed to attending one of the Horatio Alger Association’s partner colleges or universities.

The Association noted that applicants will be supported through a newly launched Online Scholarship Toolkit, which will be released closer to the opening date. The toolkit will include printable materials, sample announcements, social media templates, and QR codes to help educators and counselors promote the scholarship.

Organizers emphasize that the scholarship is designed for students who have shown resilience in the face of adversity—qualities the Association believes reflect the spirit of the American Dream.

“If you know students who would be great candidates, please encourage them to apply,” the announcement said.

More information and application access will be available beginning December 1 on the Horatio Alger Association’s official website.
