Gracie Ellen Burrum Moore was born November 7, 1935, in Flat Creek, Tennessee to Walter Marion Burrum and Essie Lorine Snell Burrum. She and her five siblings, Wilma, James Edwin (‘Day’), Helen, Frances Marion (‘Friss’), and Marie grew up during the Depression era supported by her father’s work in retail and a hard-working mother who helped manage a few farm animals and fed their large family with love on a small budget. There are many happy stories of growing up in Bottle Hollow amidst rocks and creeks with siblings and her best friends Mary Michael (‘Mike’) Shofner and Annie Ruth Hale.

Upon graduation in 1954 from Shelbyville Central High after her glory days as a majorette, she took her first job at Empire Pencil company in Shelbyville. However, when Arnold Center opened during the onset of the space race, she landed an exciting position in the data reduction division. There, she found the young man that stole her heart. Gracie and Floyd Glenn Moore, Jr. of Winchester eloped and were wed by Glenn’s friend E.H (‘Denny’) Denman in April,1960. The newlyweds moved into the family farmhouse on the Belvidere Highway in Franklin County, an older structure that Glenn had already begun to restore. With Glenn’s handyman skills and Gracie’s eye for decorating, they restored the house one room at a time and made it their home. Daughter Wendy Ellen was born in January of 1962 and son Kelly Glenn was born in May 1966. While raising their children on Glenn’s frugal budget, she also engrained herself in Franklin County by volunteering on the beautification committee, the library board, the garden club, meals on wheels, and alongside Glenn in supporting the ministry at the Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian church. Gracie had joined Glenn’s family church after their marriage after having been raised in the Flat Creek Church of Christ.

Gracie loved raising her family on the farm surrounded by the beauty of nearby mountains, grazing cattle and the continuous cycle of planting and harvest time. She loved watching sunsets with a glass of wine on her front porch. She loved to meet people and welcome new friends to her community. She never met a stranger and later in life loved keeping up with friends near and far on social media. For almost 56 years, she enjoyed road trips with Glenn and drives on country roads. She loved to wear hats and boots. She loved to decorate with wheat, magnolia, cotton and cattails. She loved the simple and the fancy equally. Her favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, and she was an amazing cook.

Gracie enjoyed her family most of all, and her family started to grow in 1990 with Wendy’s marriage to Paul Hudson Stevens in April and Kelly’s marriage to Gina Caroline Gallagher in December of that same year. She rejoiced when her ‘grands’ started arriving in 1993. All 6 grandchildren were the apple of ‘Anma’s’ eye for the rest of her long life. After Glenn’s passing in 2016, Gracie took her role of matriarch even

more seriously ensuring that the appreciation of the farm, importance of family, and most importantly her faith in our Lord Jesus were central to the legacy she would leave. Without Glenn (‘Anpa’), she has watched the family continue to grow as three of those ‘grands’ married and three ‘great grands’ have been able to thrill and entertain her most every day for the last four years.

Gracie peacefully yet joyfully departed this life at her home with family on Saturday morning, November 29, 2025. She is survived by daughter Wendy (Paul), son Kelly (Gina); grandchildren Megan Caroline Moore, Ezekiel ‘Zeke’ Grant (Hannah) Stevens, Whitson Glenn (Courtnee) Moore, Jacob Ransom Stevens, Walter Keeling Moore, Ellie Grace Stevens (Matthew) Williams; great-grandsons Boone Glenn Moore, Milan Creed Moore and Hudson Schaeffer Stevens.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Gracie’s life on Wednesday, December 3 at the Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Visitation begins at 11 am. The service will follow at 1 pm. Pallbearers are her four grandsons along with Matthew Williams and Howard Hall. Honorary pallbearers are Carolyn Garner and Brenda Tate. A short burial service at Franklin Memorial Gardens will follow. Ladies are welcomed and encouraged to wear hats and/or boots in remembrance of Gracie.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests supporting a fund in her name at the Winchester Cumberland Presbyterian Church or the Moore Family Farm Scholarship fund located at First Vision Bank in Decherd.
