Franklin County Preps for Patriotic Partying

Franklin County residents are gearing up for a festive Fourth of July weekend, with events stretching from Thursday through Saturday across multiple communities. Parades, live music, food trucks, family fun, and fireworks will make for a packed and patriotic holiday. The Franklin County Chamber of Commerce has announced multiple events for the holiday weekend!

The celebration begins Thursday, July 3, in Sewanee, where the community will kick off the weekend with a Street Dance and Family Fun Night starting at 5:30 p.m. Locals and visitors alike are invited to enjoy music, games, and a family-friendly evening in the heart of the mountain town.

On Friday, July 4, the action picks up with several major events:

  • The town of Huntland hosts its Independence Parade at 10:00 a.m., featuring floats, local organizations, and plenty of red, white, and blue.

  • Sewanee’s day-long celebration begins bright and early at 6:45 a.m. with sunrise yoga, followed by a community parade at 2:00 p.m. and fireworks at dark. A $1 donation is encouraged to support the show. The full schedule of activities is available at sewanee4thofjuly.org, including children’s games, music, food, and more.

  • In Winchester, fireworks will light up the sky starting at 9:00 p.m., with prime viewing from Winchester City Park. Families are encouraged to arrive early to grab a good spot and enjoy the evening atmosphere.

The holiday fun continues into Saturday, July 5, with two more community celebrations:

  • Decherd will host its Independence Day Celebration, an all-day event with food trucks, games, and a grand fireworks display at night.

  • The VFW Celebration kicks off at 3:00 p.m. with live music, food vendors, kids' activities, and a fireworks finale after dark.

With events scheduled throughout the long weekend, Franklin County offers plenty of opportunities for families, friends, and neighbors to come together and celebrate America’s birthday in true small-town fashion. Organizers encourage everyone to bring lawn chairs, support local vendors, and enjoy the safe, festive atmosphere.
