Authorities Continue Search After Deadly Hickman County Plant Explosion

BUCKSNORT, Tenn. — Several people are confirmed dead and nearly 20 others remain missing after a massive explosion Friday morning at Accurate Energetic Systems, an explosives manufacturer located near Bucksnort in Hickman County.

The Hickman County Sheriff’s Office described the incident as “massive,” confirming multiple fatalities. Humphreys County Emergency Management officials said at least 19 people are still unaccounted for and several others have been hospitalized.
Emergency crews remain on the scene working to secure the area and assist victims. Authorities are asking the public to avoid the site to allow first responders to operate safely. Families seeking information have been asked to report to Gate 3 at the facility.

Accurate Energetic Systems, LLC was founded in 1980 and produces energetic materials used in both defense and commercial industries. The Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development previously announced an AES expansion in 2020 that was expected to create 80 new jobs at the 1,300-acre site spanning Hickman and Humphreys counties.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation by local and federal authorities.
